How to Add a Notification Bar to Your WordPress Website • New Tricks
 In WordPress

MARQUEEThere are times when you want to have a place on your website for an announcement such as an upcoming workshop up or a nice spot to to remind people to sign up for your newsletter. There is a easy way to do this using the WordPress plugin, Notification Bar.

It is very easy to install and configure all by yourself. Simply go to your Dashboard and find “Plugins” and select “Add New”.

The page that comes up will have a list of all of your installed Plugins. At the top of the page choose to “Add New” and a page with a search box will come up.

Type in “Notification Bar” into the Search box and it will bring up a list of plugins from the WordPress repository. Notification Bar will be at the top of the list.  There are a number of similar plugins in the list, but this is one that I just used on a client’s site when “Hello Bar” caused a conflict on their site. Also, the “Hello Bar” will charge you once you get a substantial amount of clicks. The Notification Bar, however, is free and worked well.

Choose to “Install Now” and the plugin will be added to the plugins on your site. A box will ask you whether you want to Activate the plugin and when you choose Yes, the configuration area will pop up.

Choose the position of the notification bar. I like it at the top of the page. Then choose the main color for your bar. The text will be white so choose a color that will be dark enough for the message to be easily read. You add your text message and then add a link to take your reader to more information.

Put in the link URL, starting with,. Choose the words for your link and the color of the link button. Save your settings and you are done. Go to view your site and your notification bar will appear.

Give yourself a pat on the back. Job well done.

It can only change position up and down. That is controlled by a check box. It can be fixed at the top or move down when you scroll.
