Today is a standout Valentine’s Day.
My sweet little eight-month-old granddaughter, Amelia Rose, moves to Atlanta this afternoon, along with her mom – my daughter, Amanda – and her dad, Alan. I couldn’t be more excited about having them here, close to our entire, big extended family!
I’m also celebrating the ninth anniversary of New Tricks today. Wow! What a tremendous ride this has been! I certainly never expected to have a new career in web design in my mid-fifties.
Back in 2008, I had been using a WordPress site I created to sell my real estate development projects, and I loved it. As the recession kicked into full gear, I’d be sitting in the neighborhood coffee shop, talking to people starting new businesses, as they were newly laid off from their jobs. They’d end up asking me for my card and I’d tell them I didn’t have a card – or a business. When this kept happening, I realized that maybe I did have a business and one that I really loved and that was how I jumped into the deep-end of WordPress web design.
Remembering what it was like to be a WordPress beginner, staying up until the wee hours, and making 3 bucks an hour, is what led me to create The WP Web Designer Mastery Course™. I saw a deep need for a systematic path to pro where aspiring web designers could learn to price, close, build, and deliver effective websites and have thriving careers. My second cohort of students is now in the home stretch of the course and I couldn’t be more thrilled with what they’re accomplishing.
I want to express my love and gratitude to be able to work with all my talented members of the New Tricks team – Michael, Aaron, Jessica, and Sandra. They are a delight to work with and were in the trenches with me this past year, pulling together to get the WP Mastery course created and launched – while simultaneously completing our ongoing web design client work.
For the past six years, I’ve been fortunate to work with my son and web designer extraordinaire, Michael Earley, who is now our Creative Director. Finally, I want to express my love and gratitude to you. Your ongoing trust and support, your business, your referrals, and your friendship continue to inspire us and be our “why”.
