Overcoming the OK Plateau • New Tricks
 In General

sputnik_button_edited_1As many of you know, I have been working out with a trainer 3x per week for the last several weeks and it has been hard but good. What I was doing before in terms of diet and exercise was not horrible, but it was not enough to get my goals. In my workout sessions it is that last twenty percent that I think I can’t do, and certainly would never do on my own, that seems to be what is the most important.

It is that way with most anything we set out to do, whether it is working out or working on our businesses. In 1897, William James wrote about this in his book called Habit. He said, “Any sequence of mental action which has been frequently repeated tends to perpetuate itself”.

So this is a good thing because once things that were difficult become easier, we can go on auto-pilot which frees us up to concentrate on other things. But it is a double-edged sword since it creates a plateau of complacency where we don’t have the motivation to to push ourselves to do whatever it will take to jump up to the next level.

I get a newsletter that I love every Sunday morning called Brain Pickings (you should definitely sign up). This week the top article was on this exact phenomenon The Psychology of Getting Unstuck: How to Overcome the “OK Plateau” of Performance & Personal Growth.

This is such a great topic since it shows this to be a common and expected stage of any goal that is important to us, whether working out or taking your business to the next level. I have always found that when I get stuck, I need to get outside support whether it be a trainer or a mentor to motivate me to push through.

I have been asked a lot recently to put together a group or training program for people that want to work on getting their businesses on the fast track. I am wondering what format would be most helpful to people, so if you have been feeling stuck trying to learn and do everything yourself, please let me know what you are looking for. It could be a mastermind group, a series of webinars, a weekend retreat or all of the above.

Let me know what will do it for you. I look forward to hearing from you.
