The Shoemaker’s Kid Has a New Website

I recently got to thinking about how it is that professionals and even masters as well, can tend towards putting themselves last. It’s way too easy to get caught up in our day-to-day business concerns, putting everyone else first, and, sometimes, before we know it, our own house is out of order.

After several years with a compelling and what I thought was a visually appealing site that I was completely happy with, I was informed by one of my team members a few months back that it was time for an update.  At first, I resisted, but when I decided to look at my site with fresh eyes, here’s what I saw: The color scheme that was once so engaging for so long had become off-putting, especially compared with the on-trend, fresh color scheme he presented to me.

I discovered that our content was no longer the most accurate representation of everything we were up to at NEW TRICKS; we had a lot more to say about how we could help our clients grow their businesses by having an effective website. In other words, we had to lead by example. We just needed a rebranding and content update. No judgment. No big deal. We just got caught up in the business of doing our business is all.

We just launched the site this week. Would love you to take a look and give us your feedback. If you are one of our old dog friends, it might be a shock. Live with it a few days and then look again and let us know what you think!

In Module 2 of my upcoming WordPress Web Design Mastery Course, my students are directed to do a Visual and Content Audit of their current websites. After all, if their own sites are not on-trend and competent, how can they attract new clients and be a role model for current or potential clients?

Even if you are in a business with plenty of clients or referrals, it is important to have an up-to-date web presence.  It’s good practice to help people easily find the information they need about you online on a website that looks like you care about them and your business.

When was the last time you looked at your website from that point of view? Take a look now and ask yourself the following questions:

  • Is my site client-focused or (heaven forbid!) is it all about me?
  • Does my site content reflect my Brand Story?
  • Have I targeted a niche client?
  • Are my logo, my font, and my colors current and on-trend?
  • Are our team bios and photos current?
  • Does the site include a powerful call-to-action on every page?
  • Do I blog regularly to offer fresh content and boost my SEO?
  • How is my SEO rating?
  • Do I have a marketing plan?
