Let me give you fair warning, I’m doing a little rant here. I am astounded by how much time some people spend on Facebook. I was at my desk a lot of this weekend finishing a couple of projects and had my phone next to me. I got this new phone recently and it displays Facebook updates without me doing anything and I haven’t taken the time to stop it from doing that. So, today I noticed that there are some people posting Facebook updates what seems like ten times an hour or more!
Don’t get me wrong, I love social media. I love how it allows me to develop new friends and keep in touch with old ones. But I wonder about the quality of a person’s real life relationships or whether they are able to get anything done and done well if they have the time to be updating Twitter or Facebook hundreds of times a day. It is sad to me.
I went into Facebook and fixed my settings on a couple of people to show only their “really important updates”. And, just how does Facebook know which updates are really important?
Oh my! The answer to that question is that apparently it does not. I just got yet another update from one of the people I partially hid and believe me, that update was not really important. So, I guess I am going to have to hide her updates altogether.
And oh, by the way, I just got another one. Yikes, enough already. I will also fix my phone so these Facebook updates are not in my face because they are making me crazy!
Please for your sake and mine, go do something important, or spend time with someone where you are totally 100% in the now, and step away from Facebook.
