Are you in mystery about Hashtags? It is really pretty simple. Hashtags are words or phrases that are used on Social Media apps like Twitter, Instagram, Google+, Facebook and Pinterest to name a few, as a way for people to follow or track a particular subject, business, TV show, webinar or other type of event. Hashtags let people find and join into conversations on different topics.
A hashtag is created by putting a # in front of the word or phrase. If you have a favorite TV show, for example, you can either search for #nameofshow, or if you know the hashtag or see the hashtag if you click on it, a stream containing that hashtag will show up showing you the tweets of people watching the show.
You can also use hashtags for an event you are putting on or that you are attending. Hashtags are a great way to get some publicity about an event before it occurs as well as during; or before or after an event, attendees can connect with each other and feel more involved in the event by sharing the things that they learned or their opinions of something that happened.
You don’t have to get approval from anyone to begin using a #hashtag. But you might want to make sure that it is not being used for some other group that could get confused with yours.
When you put on events, you might want to ask your attendees for their Twitter handles when they sign up and share them on your website. You can also publish the event’s hashtag on your site and promotional materials and encourage people to use it. Dan Zarilla of Social Media Scientist reported that tweets with one or more hashtags are 55% more likely to be retweeted. So you may want to give it a try.
Oh, and so you are not completely confused, you will also see people use hashtags to make a point, emphasize for a particular thing, or to indicate irony or sarcasm.
